I was invited this morning to participate in the European Union Commission on Culture, Social Cohesion, and Democratization consultation hosted by Transparency International Lebanon – No Corruption. The Culture Dialogue session was incredibly enlightening, with diverse voices from CSOs sharing inspiring recommendations.
For the future of EU funding in cultural programs, I proposed the following:
1️⃣ Support capacity building for cultural institutions and practitioners.
2️⃣ Prioritize inclusivity.
3️⃣ Encourage cross-cultural collaboration.
4️⃣ Back digital innovation in arts and culture.
5️⃣ Back community engagement cultural initiatives.
6️⃣ Provide sustained, long-term support for the cultural sector.
7️⃣ Advocate for cultural policies that uphold freedom of expression, human rights, social justice, and cultural heritage preservation.
8️⃣ Foster social cohesion through arts and culture.
9️⃣ Support marginalized, independent, and emerging artists.
And avoid restrictions on freedom of thought and expression in the arts and culture field to maintain the EU Commission’s credibility in Lebanon.
